DIAC Arbitration report 2022
The 2022 Annual Report from the Dubai International Arbitration Center (DIAC) in the United Arab Emirates has been released. DIAC’s Annual Report demonstrated steady increases in case registrations throughout the previous years. 2020 had 231 cases in comparison to 276 in 2021 and 340 in 2022; a 20-23% increase annually. Notably, 44% of these cases concerned parties from disparate nations, such as Europe, China, Southeast Asia, the Middle East, and Africa. That is more than 2021’s 47% with one party from the UAE and the other from abroad. 10% of the reported cases involved solely foreign parties. The estimated monetary value of the registered cases was USD 3.1 billion, with 92% of those cases ranging from up to USD 13.5 million (152 cases were up to USD 272,000 and 160 up to USD 13.5 million). Remarkably, two cases exceeded USD 270 million, one almost reaching USD 400 million. These cases were mainly from the construction industry (49%), followed by commercial (27%) and real estate (16%) disputes. To Access the full report click here.
