Saudi Arabia's Accession to the United Nations Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods (CISG)
The Saudi Arabian government approved the Kingdom’s accession to the United Nations Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods (CISG) on 22 June 2023 in order to implement regulatory and legislative frameworks that are in line with international standards for cross‑border trade, as a step towards integrating its economy with regional and global markets. This move will not only enhance the local contract system, but also provide clarity and transparency to businesses concerning international trade procedures while providing mechanisms to resolve disputes efficiently and remove trade barriers. Accession to the CISG will also promote the diversification of the Saudi economy and allow small and medium enterprises to have a greater role in cross‑border trade.
